Dujiangyan Irrigation Project is a world cultural heritage, a world irrigation project heritage, and also the world's oldest, only retained, still in use, large-scale water conservancy project characterized by dam free water diversion. It is not a simple "historical site", but a "living water conservancy museum" that is still benefiting the Chengdu Plain.
The greatness of Dujiangyan Irrigation Project lies in its philosophy of "following nature and combining nature with man" and its extremely sophisticated engineering design. It does not need a dam, but only uses the terrain and water potential to perfectly solve the three problems of automatic diversion, automatic sediment discharge and water volume control.
The scenic area is relatively large, and it is recommended to visit it in the logical order of water conservancy projects to better understand its subtleties.
Classic route (about 3-4 hours, no turning back):
Entrance (Lidui Park): Enter through the north gate of Lidui Park and first visit the Fulong Temple (which houses national treasures such as the Li Bing stone statue carved during the Eastern Han Dynasty).
Baopingkou: You can overlook Baopingkou from the Fulong Temple and feel the shock of the rushing river water in.
Feisha Weir: Walk along the edge of the weir to observe the actual effect of overflow and sand discharge.
Yuzui: Walk or take a scenic sightseeing bus (one-way 10 yuan) across the Anlan Cable Bridge that spans the inner and outer rivers (shaking and exciting, pay attention to safety), and arrive at the Yuzui Water Diversion Embankment in the middle of the river. This is the best location to experience the power of panoramic engineering.
Erwang Temple: After crossing the Anlan Bridge, climb up the mountain to visit the Erwang Temple built in memory of Li Bing and his son. The building is built along the mountain and has a magnificent atmosphere.
Yulei Pavilion (optional): Continue climbing to Yulei Pavilion, which is the commanding height overlooking the whole Dujiangyan Irrigation Project water conservancy project and the panoramic view of Dujiangyan Irrigation Project City. You can take the Bu Yun Lang escalator up (additional ticket required).
Xiguan exit: descend from the Yuleishan area and exit the scenic area near Xijie or Nanqiao.
