Travel Tips

Motuo, in Tibetan, means "hidden lotus flower". It is located in the southeast of Linzhi City, Xizang, at the lower reaches of the the Yarlung Zangbo River, bordering Chayu in the east and India in the south. It is the last county in China that has access to roads, and it is also the place with the lowest altitude, the mildest environment, the most abundant rainfall, and the best ecological preservation on the Xizang Plateau. The existence of Motuo has completely overturned people's stereotype of Xizang as "cold, dry and anoxic" - it is known as "Xishuangbanna in Xizang" because it has a complete vegetation zone with tropical, subtropical, temperate and cold zones coexisting.

Motuo is undoubtedly a 'natural museum'.
Vertical vegetation zone:
High mountain areas: alpine meadows, flowing rocky beaches, suitable for grazing yaks.
Zhongshan District: coniferous forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, towering spruce and fir trees.
Low mountain areas and river valleys: subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests, tropical seasonal rainforests. There are huge vines, wild plantains, ferns (plants from the dinosaur era), and various orchids here.
Rare animals and plants:
Motuo is home to rare animals unique to China, such as the Luoba yew and Motuo rhododendron, as well as wild animals such as Bengal tigers, clouded leopards, takins, and long tailed langurs. If you're lucky, you can see colorful birds and mischievous monkeys on the roadside.
The core section of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon: The core section of the world's largest canyon is located within the borders of Motuo. The river surges and roars here, cutting through the deepest canyon in the world.

The main ethnic groups of Motuo are the Menba and Luoba, who have unique cultural customs.
Menba tribe: skilled in singing and dancing, with brightly colored clothing, living in dry wooden houses. They have their own traditional beliefs, believing that all things have spirits.
Luoba tribe: also known for farming and hunting, historically renowned for making and using bows and arrows. Their myths, legends, and sacrificial activities are very rich.
Religious influence: Tibetan Buddhism also has a profound impact here. The famous Renqin Beng Temple is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Motuo, located in Motuo Village and serving as the religious center of the entire Motuo region.
