Travel Tips

Namco, which means "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan, is the first of the three holy lakes in Xizang (the other two are Yangzhuo Yongcuo and Mapang Yongcuo), and also the largest lake at the highest altitude in the world. It is famous for its high altitude, large area, and magnificent scenery, and is hailed as a "tear on the surface of the earth".

Namco is not only a natural beauty, but also a mythical world full of spirituality.
Shenshan Companion: In Tibetan Buddhism and local legends, Namtso is the daughter of Emperor Shitian and the wife of Nyenchen Tanggula Mountain. The majestic Nianqing Tanggula Peak (7162 meters above sea level) is covered in snow all year round, like a warrior wearing armor, guarding Namtso day and night. This scene of sacred mountains and lakes coexisting is a sacred place in the hearts of the Tibetan people.
The tradition of turning around the lake: Believers believe that turning around Namtso Lake can dispel disasters and pray for blessings. It usually takes 4-5 days (by car or on foot) to circumnavigate the lake, especially in the Tibetan Year of the Sheep. The merit of circumnavigating the lake is considered doubled, and thousands of believers will come to pilgrimage at that time.

Scenery:
Welcome Stone: Two huge stone tablets that serve as the gateway to Namtso.
Heping Stone: A natural stone pillar resembling two palms clasped together, symbolizing the loyal love between Nianqing Tanggula Mountain and Namco.
Good and Evil Cave: Legend has it that if a person has a kind heart, no matter how fat they are, they can crawl through it; If you have malicious intentions, you will get stuck (of course, this is just an interesting legend).
Zaxi Domoche: This is an excellent location to watch the sunset, sunrise, and starry sky. In the evening, the golden afterglow falls on the Nianqing Tanggula Mountain (Rizhao Jinshan); At night, this is one of the areas with the best dark conditions in the world, and looking up, you can see the dazzling Milky Way.
