The Pamir Plateau is located at the intersection of southwestern Xinjiang, southeastern Tajikistan, and northeastern Afghanistan in China. It was formerly known as the "Congling Mountains" and is the roof of the Asian continent. It is not only a necessary stop on the Silk Road, but also the location of K2, the world's second highest peak. The Pamir Plateau is famous for its magnificent snow capped mountains and glaciers, deep plateau lakes, unique Tajik ethnic customs, and important border ports.

Main mountain ranges
Kunlun Mountains: extend southeast from the Pamir Plateau.
The Karakoram Mountains: Extending southeast, it has the world's second highest peak K2 (8611 meters above sea level).
The Hindu Kush Mountains extend southwest into Afghanistan.
