Potatso National Park is the first officially named national park in Chinese Mainland, located in Shangri La, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and an important part of the "Three Parallel Rivers" World Natural Heritage. It is known for its well protected primitive ecosystem, tranquil and pure plateau lakes, herds of cattle and sheep in alpine meadows, and abundant species in dense forests. It is known as the "eyes of Shangri La" and the "epitome of heaven on earth".
Shudu Lake
Characteristic: One of the most classic attractions in the park. The lake water is as clear as a mirror, like a sapphire embedded in the mountains. During spring and summer, the azaleas by the lake are in full bloom, colorful and vibrant; In autumn and winter, the morning mist and frost snow intertwine like a dream. A wooden boardwalk about 3.3 kilometers long has been built by the lake, making it easy to stroll and enjoy the scenery of the lake and mountains, as well as the pristine forests of spruce and fir trees along the shore.
Bita Lake
Characteristics: A high mountain lake with an altitude of about 3568 meters, it is one of the highest lakes in Yunnan Province. It is surrounded by dense virgin forests and shaped like a heart. The "Bita" in Tibetan means "a place where oak trees form felt", vividly depicting the scenery of the lakeside oak forest. The famous "Rhododendron Drunken Fish" spectacle takes place here - every May in the lunar calendar, rhododendron petals fall into the lake, and after being swallowed by the fish, the fish float on the water surface like they are drunk, adding a mysterious color to the lake. There is also a complete boardwalk system for visiting Bitahai.
Militang Alpine Pasture
Characteristic: In Tibetan, it means "Buddha's Eye Meadow". This is an open and flat alpine meadow, like a slender Buddha's eye, embedded among the mountains and forests. In spring and summer, with lush green grass and wildflowers everywhere, herds of yaks and horses leisurely forage here, presenting a classic picture of Tibetan plateau pastures. This is an excellent place for photography and experiencing the peaceful grassland scenery.
Rich ecosystem
Potatso Park has a complete ecosystem of primitive forests, alpine wetlands, meadows, lakes, and streams. The vertical band spectrum of vegetation is obvious, ranging from subalpine dark coniferous forests to alpine shrub meadows, providing habitats for numerous animals and plants.
