The Qianling Mausoleum is a unique imperial tomb in Chinese history, and also a model of the Tang Dynasty's "mountain based tomb". It is the joint burial tomb of Emperor Gaozong of Tang, Li Zhi, and the only female emperor in Chinese history, Empress Wu Zetian. It is located on Liangshan Mountain in Qian County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, and is magnificent, full of legendary colors and unsolved mysteries.
A unique imperial burial tomb
Husband and wife two saints: buried two emperors at the same time - Tang Gaozong Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian. This is unparalleled in the history of imperial tombs in China and even the world.
The Mystery of the Wuzi Stele: The "Wuzi Stele" erected in front of the tomb for Wu Zetian has not been engraved with a single character, and its meaning has been debated for thousands of years (merits and demerits are judged by later generations, merits and virtues are immeasurable, self proclaimed as the "Great Holy Emperor of Zetian" cannot be determined, etc.), becoming the most famous symbol and suspense of the Qianling Mausoleum.
Representative stone carvings:
Shushengji Stele: erected by Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty, the inscription was written by Wu Zetian and by Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian, recording Gaozong's achievements.
61 Portraits of Barbarians: There are 61 headless stone statues on both sides of the Shinto, representing minority leaders and foreign envoys who attended Emperor Gaozong's funeral at that time, and bearing witness to the international influence of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
The stone statues of divine beasts such as lions, winged horses, and ostriches are magnificent in shape and exquisitely carved, reflecting the confidence and magnanimity of the Tang Dynasty.
