The Old Town of Lijiang, located in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, was built in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty (about the 13th century). It is one of the most well preserved ancient cities with the most national characteristics in China. It is known as a "World Cultural Heritage" (selected in 1997), perfectly integrating Naxi culture, Han Tibetan architectural styles, and the essence of Ming and Qing urban planning, and is known as the "Venice of the East" and "Gusu of the Plateau".
The Living Ancient Naxi Kingdom
The ancient city is a place where the Naxi people have lived for generations. Cultural elements such as Dongba script, Naxi ancient music, and moon wearing costumes are vividly visible, especially the ancient water system of the "Three Eyes Well" (upper drinking, middle washing, and lower pollution), which is still used in daily life.
The maze city without walls
Legend has it that due to the surname "Mu" of the chieftain, building a city became "difficult", so the ancient city did not build walls. The street is surrounded by mountains and waters, with Sifang Street as the center, radiating more than a thousand alleys like a spider web, easy to get lost but also full of exploration fun.
Small Bridge Flowing Water and Architectural Art
The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain melts water through the city, and 354 stone bridges connect the two banks of the river. Residential buildings are mostly made of "three courtyards and one facing wall" civil structures, with carved doors and windows, and hanging fish components that are quaint and exquisite.

Cultural taboo
China is a multi-ethnic country, and there are significant differences in customs and habits among various ethnic groups. Especially when traveling in ethnic minority areas, it is important to pay attention to cultural taboos, such as taking off shoes when entering a Dai bamboo house, avoiding pork in Hui restaurants, and treating Buddhist statues, scriptures, and beads as sacred objects that must not be touched. It is recommended to listen carefully to the pre-trip introduction provided by the accompanying personnel and respect local culture and customs.
