The Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon, also known as the Kuche Grand Canyon, is located in the northern part of Kuche City, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, at the southern end of the Duku Highway. It is famous for its unique reddish brown mountains, steep canyon landforms, and mysterious cultural relics, and is known as one of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Canyons in China".
Geology and landforms
Reddish brown mountain
The mountains of the canyon are mainly composed of red sandstone and mudstone from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, with a reddish brown color that shines brightly under sunlight, like a raging fire.
Canyon morphology
The canyon winds and twists, with ravines crisscrossing and steep cliffs on both sides, and various shapes. Some are like sharp swords piercing into the clouds, some like giant beasts crouching, and some like castles standing tall, full of mystery.
play of light and shadow
The canyon has a rich variety of lighting changes, and the scenery seen from different times and angles is completely different. At noon, the sunlight shines directly on the valley floor, and the red rocks shine brightly; In the evening, the setting sun casts a slanting glow, and the mountains appear golden red, with intertwined light and shadow, like a dream.
The integration of nature and humanities
Geological wonders
The Grand Canyon is a natural museum for studying the geological structure of the Tianshan Mountains and the formation of the Yadan landform. Its unique landform is extremely rare worldwide.
Silk Road relics
The Tang Dynasty grottoes in the canyon prove that it was once an important node on the ancient Silk Road, where Buddhist culture flourished.
Kizil Thousand Buddha Cave
Not far from the Grand Canyon, it is a famous Buddhist grotto temple site in Xinjiang, which can be visited together with the Grand Canyon to experience the charm of Buddhist art.
