Travel Tips

Wild Elephant Valley is located in Mengyang Town, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is the only protected area in China that can have close contact with Asian wild elephants and is also one of the first national level ecological tourism demonstration areas in China. It is renowned for its rich tropical rainforest landscape, high probability of observing wild Asian elephants, and deep natural education experiences.

Observing wild Asian elephants
High altitude elephant observation trail: With a total length of about 2 kilometers, it is set up in the canopy of rainforest trees and is the best place to observe wild elephant activities. During the dry season from November to February of the following year, wild elephants have a higher probability of drinking water in river valleys.
Rainforest observation points: There are multiple hidden observation points in the valley, equipped with telescopes, which can wait patiently for the appearance of wild elephant families.
Elephant Trace Recognition: Learn to recognize elephant footprints, feces, and other traces along the way, and experience the fun of "tracking".
Asian Elephant Conservation and Science Popularization
China Asian Elephant Museum: The only museum in China with the theme of Asian elephants, comprehensively showcasing the evolution, ecology, conservation status, and related culture of Asian elephants.
Elephant School (Elephant Behavior Exhibition): Watch interesting elephant behavior exhibitions such as kicking soccer, painting, and beauty pageants to understand their wisdom and habits (note: such exhibitions have ethical controversies, and it is recommended that visitors view them rationally from the perspective of respecting animal welfare).
Elephant canteen: Fruits (such as cucumbers and bananas) can be purchased and safely fed to captive elephants in designated areas for interaction.
Exploration of Tropical Rainforest
Rainforest Hiking: Traverse the pristine tropical rainforest along the walking trail and admire unique plant landscapes such as strangled banyan trees, bamboo shoots, and giant vines.
Cableway Crossing: Take the 2063 meter sightseeing cableway (self paid) to overlook the canopy layer of the rainforest and the panoramic view of the Elephant Valley from the sky.
Other featured projects
Snake and Lizard Garden, Butterfly Garden: Observe various amphibians, reptiles, and tropical butterflies.
Tree Inn (reservation required): Stay overnight in a treehouse deep in the rainforest, listen to the sounds of nature at night, and increase the chance to encounter wild elephants.
