The Wuhou Shrine in Chengdu is the only existing "joint worship temple for monarchs and ministers" and the most influential museum of Three Kingdoms relics in China, enjoying the reputation of "Holy Land of Three Kingdoms". This is not only a temple commemorating the heroes of Shu Han, but also a pilgrimage site for enthusiasts of Three Kingdoms culture around the world.
It is recommended to visit in the historical order from south to north to understand the "sequence of kings and ministers".
First priority: Han Zhaolie Temple (dedicated to Emperor Liu Bei of Shu Han)
Gate: Hang the plaque of "Han Zhaolie Temple".
Two doors:
Liu Bei Hall (Zhaolie Hall): The main hall houses a golden clay statue of Liu Bei. On both sides of the side hall, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and others are enshrined.
Wen Chen Lang&Wu Jiang Lang: On both sides of Liu Bei's palace, there are a total of 28 statues of Shu Han Wen Chen and Wu Jiang generals, such as Zhao Yun, Pang Tong, Huang Zhong, Jiang Wei, etc. Each statue is accompanied by a small monument introducing their life stories.
Second level: Wuhou Temple (dedicated to Prime Minister Zhuge Liang)
Hall: Numerous plaques and couplets praising Zhuge Liang from later generations are hung, among which the most famous is the "Attacking the Heart" couplet ("If one can attack the heart, then the opposite side will self destruct. From ancient times, it has been known that soldiers are not warlike; if one does not judge the situation, leniency and strictness are both mistakes. Later, when governing Shu, one should think deeply"), which is rich in political wisdom.
Zhuge Liang Hall (Jingyuan Hall): The main hall houses three generations of statues of Zhuge Liang's ancestors and grandchildren (Zhuge Liang, his son Zhuge Zhan, and his grandson Zhuge Shang). The atmosphere inside the hall is solemn, highlighting its character of 'peaceful and far-reaching'.
The third level: Liu Bei's Tomb
Huiling: The joint burial tomb of Liu Bei, Lady Gan, and Lady Wu, with a soil cover height of 12 meters and a circumference of about 180 meters. The tomb is well preserved and has never been stolen, with a solemn and tranquil environment.
Fourth level: Exhibition of Three Kingdoms Culture
San Yi Temple: In memory of the three sworn brothers Liu, Guan, and Zhang Taoyuan, it was built in the early Qing Dynasty and later relocated here.
Jieyi Building: There is a performance venue inside, where Sichuan opera, face changing, and other performances are often performed.
The Three Kingdoms Culture Exhibition Room: showcases the history of the Three Kingdoms through cultural relics, models, and graphic and textual systems.
