Travel Tips

Xizhou Ancient Town is located in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, on the northwest bank of Erhai Lake, at the foot of Wutai Peak in Cangshan. It is one of the most well preserved ancient towns of the Bai ethnic group in Dali, with a history dating back to the Nanzhao period. It was once an important stop on the Tea Horse Ancient Road and the Southern Silk Road, and is known as the "first town of the Bai ethnic group" and the "birthplace of Dali culture".

Bai Ethnic Architecture Museum
Xizhou has preserved a large number of Bai ethnic residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China, among which the courtyard patterns of "three courtyards and one wall" and "four in five courtyards" are particularly typical. Representative buildings such as Yan Family Courtyard and Dong Garden are exquisitely carved, reflecting the superb skills of Bai craftsmen.
Rural poetic scenery
The outskirts of the ancient town are surrounded by vast countryside, with colors changing with the seasons - golden rapeseed flowers in spring, emerald green rice fields in summer, rolling rice waves in autumn, and picturesque mountains in the distance, forming a nostalgic picture of "seeing mountains and countryside".
The active life of the Bai ethnic group
Local residents still maintain their traditional way of life, and intangible cultural heritage crafts such as tie dyeing, embroidery, and horsehide paper are inherited here. Markets and festivals are full of rich ethnic customs.

Featured Experience
Eating Xizhou Baba: There are two flavors, salty and sweet, crispy and delicious. I recommend the old brand of Sifang Street.
Drinking coffee by the rice paddies: Sitting and watching the Cangshan rice paddies, enjoying a peaceful afternoon.
Cycling from the countryside to the seaside: Rent a bicycle or electric scooter, shuttle through the rural paths, and directly reach the Erhai Lake corridor.
Participate in Bai ethnic festivals, such as the "Torch Festival" on the 25th day of the sixth lunar month and the "Three Spirits Around" in the seventh lunar month, and experience grand folk activities.

Traffic safety tips
In China, all vehicles drive on the right side of the road, and both drivers and passengers must wear seat belts.

Health and medical tips
It is recommended to bring along commonly used medications (such as painkillers or gastrointestinal medications). If you need to take prescribed medication for an extended period, it is advisable to prepare sufficient quantities before departure and carry along doctor's certification documents, medical records, etc.
It is recommended to visit the international medical department of a general hospital or a foreign-funded hospital for treatment, as they generally provide medical services in English.
It is recommended to purchase relevant insurance before departure, and properly keep diagnosis certificates, outpatient medical records, fee lists, prescriptions, invoices, etc.

Cultural taboo
China is a multi-ethnic country, and there are significant differences in customs and habits among various ethnic groups. Especially when traveling in ethnic minority areas, it is important to pay attention to cultural taboos, such as taking off shoes when entering a Dai bamboo house, avoiding pork in Hui restaurants, and treating Buddhist statues, scriptures, and beads as sacred objects that must not be touched. It is recommended to listen carefully to the pre-trip introduction provided by the accompanying personnel and respect local culture and customs.
