The Yulong River is located in Yangshuo County, Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is the longest tributary of the Li River within Yangshuo, with a total length of about 43.5 kilometers. It is known as the "Little Li River", but compared to the grandeur of the Li River, the Yulong River is famous for its pristine, natural, and tranquil landscape of mountains, rivers, and fields. It is currently the largest pure natural landscape area in Guilin.
Bamboo Rafting
This is the most quintessential and popular experience on the Yulong River. Unlike rafting in many domestic scenic areas, the Yulong River offers a gentle and pleasant journey, primarily propelled by raft operators using bamboo poles.
The rafting route passes several small drops formed by stone weirs (locally known as "dams"). As the rafts glide down these drops, there are small impacts and splashes of water, adding a touch of fun and excitement to the otherwise tranquil journey.
There are many rafting sections to choose from, some classic options include:
Jinlong Bridge – Jiuxian Section: Longer (approximately 90 minutes), with magnificent scenery, offering the most complete experience.
Shuiedi – Gongnong Bridge Section: Shorter (approximately 40-50 minutes), suitable for travelers with limited time, ending near the famous Ten-Mile Gallery scenic area in Yangshuo.
Pastoral Scenery on Both Banks
The riverbanks are characterized by typical karst topography, with verdant mountains reflected in the emerald waters. Along the banks are lush green rice paddies, rustic villages, leisurely water buffalo, and slowly turning waterwheels.
